Description

SESSION SUMMARY: Rainscreen wall assemblies have often been cited by the top building scientists as the most effective method to deal with water penetrating from the external environmental load. When designed and installed correctly, we can also address the inwardly driven moisture, keeping the structure dry and improving health and longevity of our buildings. In this in-depth AIA CES seminar, we will discuss the basic principles of rainscreens and understand how each component plays an integral role in the building envelope so that we may optimize the benefits and efficiencies and avoid costly mistakes or design something that exceeds our client’s budget constraints. This program will explore the sub-girt attachment systems, thermal & moisture analysis, and various cladding options for every aesthetic & budget.

PRESENTER: Michelle K. Perez brings 20 years of building industry experience, beginning her career reinventing existing spaces for developers and in 2007 evolving to exterior cladding, masonry, and terra cotta. Michelle has assisted with modifying details and creating smart, cost-effective solutions for architects, contractors, and owners and most recently spearheaded the IMI historic terra cotta training program for architects and masons that modernized the terra cotta industry’s 1927 attachment details.

NETWORKING SUMMARY: The 30 min networking prior to the presentation will be on the topic of how to survive a recession. Our experienced speakers will be Brian Penschow from BWP Architecture & Paul Rugaber from PDR Designs.  Both of the speakers have lived through struggling times and will be joining the conversation with advice and tips on how we can better deal with our current situation.
